Pusat Tenun Pahang

Last saturday, while waiting for the boys attending their piano class, we went to Pusat Tenun Pahang at Sg Soi (strange name, right?)..anyway, that was my first visit (after all these years-dasat tu!). We were there to pick up 2 pieces of clothing which have been reserved earlier. After the first tenun which is a sampin bought about 8 years ago (at Pusat Tenun Pekan)...this is our second addition to our tenun pahang's collection (if 3 is enough to define a "collection "at all...grrrr-if cant, please propose a correct word..).
Frankly, I am not really into tenun pahang coz somehow most of the time, the colour is always too pastel for me and pattern is usually checked, which i think would only suits as sampin or sarong than baju kurung. However, my perception has changed quite a bit after visiting the pusat...having spent sometime watching the staff doing the tenun, observing the machine works..i just realise this one malay heritage is magnificent , it has special character and uniqueness that stand on its own. If we malays do not preserve this inheritance who will??..so standing ovations to KYDTM Tengku Puan Pahang.
During the visit, there was also a group of local club/association did their outing at the Pusat. I overheard some complained about not many ready-to-buy selections, and I think (another eavesdropping-tak sengaja ok)there is no credit card merchandise- which i feel necessary given its price range. And I am in the opinion that to capture wider market i.e. non malays esp, there should be more plain or big stripes patterns-which is more stylish than checked or ready to wear items like shawls-which is a hip to all, rather than only kain pasang. Having said that, perhaps they do not have the capacity to have like massive production, and maybe those left unsold are the checked pattern (as there are quite many on the shelves)
