Penang's Teochew Temple (Hanjiang Ancestral Temple)

Aku ngan adik aku discover this temple secara tak sengaja ...dalam dok sibuk2 cari jalan to go to Sri Mahamariamman Temple, ternampak plak this really eye-catching building...

This is also known as Hanjiang Ancestral Temple...has been in this location (i.e. Lebuh Chulia) since 1870 and has recently undergo an extensive (and expensive) rennovation. It even won a merit-award from UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award (for culture heritage conservation). Sebab aku kan from planning and design background, masa jalan2 pun always view things based on that knowledge & background ..this temple actually is an example of traditional Teochew architecture in Georgetown (according to Penang Heritage Trust).

Pintu dia has this very striking features ...and a very large (and i mean LARGE) doorway ...tapi tak nampak window pun! And according to PHT, pintu dia nie dilukis dengan gambar “door gods” yang ada head-dresses of embossed gold. And the motifs, painting, styles etc semua nyer bercirikan design Teochew-style ...

again, aku tak masuk pun ke dalam temple nie ...sebab dah tutup dah pun masa tu. But kalau tengok from the guidebook and other sources from the internet, the interior dia pun very nicely done and conserved. Can see more pictures from this link (kalau berminat le) ...as for me, tengok dari luar and snap a few photos pun dah cukup ...coz I was running out of time masa tu.

Kak long punya "dull" tu sebab dia compare dengan bangunan Harrods kat London.

Seriously...people like me and kak long...lalu 100 kali kat depan building ni pun tak akan perasan the hidden value of the building. Aku sebab tak nampak any food...kak long sebab tak nampak kasut/handbags sumer. Sib baik Ejin cover this area...boleh lah anak cucu cicit kita tahu serba sikit pasal valuable history ni sumer. Bravo Ejin.
